I have always had an innate way of relating to babies and young children. As a child I made a bee line for any mother with a baby wanting to cuddle and play with her baby. I was always playing with children and when I reached my teens I always knew I wanted to care for children.
I went to college to gain my BTEC National Diploma in Early Years Care and Education passing with a distinction in all subjects. I threw myself into all of my work placements gaining more and more experience to involve babies and children of all ages in all types of settings. It was then that I met my first set of triplets whom I loved to be involved with and still keep in touch with now. My interest in multiple births developed dramatically from here and I became a keen reader of other multiple stories and loved talking to mothers of twins and triplets. I gained my qualifications on Caring for Multiples and continued to care on a daily basis for sets of twins. I have since gone on to gain qualifications in Sleep Training and Psychology and am currently studying a Foundation Degree in Early Years Care and Education through the Open University with the aim to achieve Early Years Professional Status. I will gain an OCN Maternity Practitioner Award in October 2009, furthering my knowledge and skills with young babies including issues such as feeding and sleeping. I have a keen interest on keeping up to date with relevant courses and childcare development ideas. My experience with babies and children has been consistent throughout, I have cared for numerous newborns, toddlers and pre-schoolers and caring for them has enabled me to hone my childcare skills to ensure I provide the highest standard of childcare.
I have wanted to work as a childminder for a very long time, my goal has been to provide my high standards of childcare in my own environment and I am really enjoying fulfilling my dream.

Working with children has always been a passion of mine, from a young age I would constantly ask to help look after any babies who came to visit. I would spend hours playing, feeding and bathing them. When I left school I went straight to college to achieve my CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education, I spent two years studying and gaining hands on experience by working in nurseries, schools and alongside a childminder. I thoroughly enjoyed all my placements but it was working with a childminder that made me realise I wanted to become a nanny. I felt it was such a personal job where you became important in each child’s life. Not only did I get to watch the children learn and grow I felt being a part of a child’s life was a very rewarding job. Being a nanny is never dull, I am constantly being kept on my toes having to answer many questions from both children and parents, or having to come up with new games or craft ideas. In addition to this I have learnt to be calm when there is chaos all around as well as multitask.
The age range of children I have worked with is vast, the youngest being two week old premature twins and the oldest being twelve. I have furthered my training in depth since leaving college. I regularly renew my First Aid certificate to ensure it is up to-date, I have gained my Food Hygiene and Child Psychology certificates and am currently studying a Diploma in Diet and Nutrition which I am really enjoying. I hope to engage in many more courses in the future to help extend my knowledge and understanding of children, ensuring I practice the best possible care.
Becoming a Child-minder has been something I have wanted to achieve for a very long time. It is a way I can incorporate the high standard of care I provide to children with an environment that is designed and set up in a way that I feel is best for the children. I enjoy participating in craft and messy activities with the children and now I am able to use my creativity to its full potential.
